Homeopathy for Childbirth and Pregnancy
The practise of
present day Homeopathy is based upon the work of Samual Hahnemann,
who first published his theories 200 years ago. However the underlying
principles can be traced back as far as Hippocrates in the 5th century
BC. Even today some Eastern medicines bear some resemblance to homeopathy
, in that they look to treat the whole person and the idea of their
vital force.
The basic tenet of homeopathy is the laws of similars. It states
that a medicine that can produce symptoms in a healthy person
will cure the symptoms in a sick person. Habnemann recognised this
as
a law of nature and developed a complete system of medicine on
this basis.
It is a gentle but highly effective treatment and is one of the
safest forms of medicine to use during pregnancy and childbirth,
as the preparations use only a minute dilution of the active ingredient.
Stimulating the Mothers body’s natural healing potential
it also keeps the baby healthy too.
As everyone is different, the remedy prescribed can vary from
person to person.
Homeopathic remedies can be very effective for the ailments
often experienced during pregnancy such as piles, indigestion
and sickness.
Used for pain relief during labour it has also found to be effective
for stalled or prolonged labours, turning breech babies and
for recovery from birth.
As always it is best to consult a practitioner
rather than self medicate, there are many books and web addresses
